I think officially the category’s shojo, but there’s a good chance there’s gonna be a few inside jokes and a diluted and (frankly inevitable, given the limited character pool) underlying BL theme. Those tight shorts, also known as speedos, are standard issue for a swimmer. It makes you go faster since there’s no drag from the water that would usually go in your pants and slow you down. That being said, the occasional penis bulge will be seen in this anime. Trust me, as a swimmer, I know there is no avoiding it in those shorts as much as I tried, and we all know how KyotoAni loves their details in animation. Sill, this shit looks badass, so yeah.

Actually, it would be silly. Foreign anime fans account for an abysmally small percentage of sales in the industry – even studios with a lot of money like Kyoto Animation aren’t stupid enough to consider what they want. KyoAni most likely had this anime in production long before any of those tumblr-spawned petitions hit.

It was made thanks to the overwhelming support of the fans. A lot of them are on tumblr. Not all, but a lot of them. It’d be silly to say they weren’t a part of the creation of it.

After watching the teaser, I don’t see why everyone thinks this is going to be a gay harem anime. Assuming it’s going to show on a regular TV network, I highly doubt it’s going to be. It looks like a normal sport-based anime with the main cast being males. Nothing new.
