Is it just me who is worried if this movie will have some really sad reason for these 2 new characters not being in s1 nor s2 and we will all just end up crying even more than we thought
+Mindless Coyote I don’t think they’ll elaborate a specifically sad reason. Ikuya and Asahi appeared in the 2nd novel that came out when Free s1 had been released, and s2 was in the production. So the makers probably didn’t find the space for them to fit into the plot…although it’s not much of a legit reason, since they squeezed Kisumi in, even for a cameo. But I count on the fact that this title, although with tears and teen angst, still is a very happy title.

I agree! But did you know there was an announcement saying that something is coming up spring 2016? Kyoani also said a long time ago to watch this movie before spring as well, and director utsumi isn’t working on starting days so she’s probably working on something els. (She even said to remember haruka’s character song “navy tomorrow” which is about his future in pro swimming) the fandom is almost positive there will be another movie, most likely about olympics. (Imagine a movie of rin and Haru going to the olympics!!) *squeals*

Well, a book and an anime are different types of media, after all, and studios often have to bring in changes to make it more versatile. If they had adapted High Speed 2 word-by-word, it would’ve been pure 1,5-2 hours of Haru angsting in the pool, with interludes of him stalking Makoto and being jealous of him, so yeaaaaahhhh… since they introduced such _considerable_ things in Hibike! as yuri baits, we could nearly expect open shounen-ai at this tempo in HS, omg (though it won’t happen, ofc).
I’m happy for the choice of a HS director, and the animation looks stunning. The only thing that makes me slightly anxious is that the scriptwriter doesn’t seem to be very experienced, she only wrote episodic scenes for separate KyoAni shows, so it’s her first big work. But I read the interview with her, she is very respectable towards the original novel. So my hopes are high!
…I’m pretty sure the swimming around each other thing is just to look pretty for the trailer and won’t actually appear in the movie. No prizes for guessing what famous scene the shot of crying Makoto at 1:13 is from, though.

The thing is there’s no such scene in the novel xDD There is no fighting scene as well. SPOILERS: Both Haru and Makoto feel very depressed that they don’t spend time together as they used to, and it makes them both anxious about the future of their friendship. But they both prefer to keep their distance and cope with their feelings separately. Only by the end they settle it after one dramatic episode, and it strengthens their bond, but it’s not shown in the trailer, and I don’t want to spoil it for you c:

I’m not too keen about this. It’s kind of annoying how inconsistent the movie is with what we already saw in s1. When they showed flashbacks of Rin’s race with Haru as kids (an important moment in the series) they looked and sounded younger than they do in this movie…and that moment took place AFTER this. Also Haru saying that his fight in s2 with Makoto was his first fight is no longer true.
There’s no reason to give these little kids man voices. If they wanted to use the more popular voice actors that they have when they’re older, they should have done a movie where they’re older.

Eternal summer seiyuu event said that boys hit puberty around the time their in middle school or the age of 13-14 so it fine for them to voice act it. Still I’m really excited for this movie! Every movie as mistakes so for me its ok.
And maybe the fight that he had with Makoto in this movie was not really that serious like the one they had in season 2. They probably were able to make up quickly or solve the problem together, but for S2 Haru ran away from Makoto not letting him explain and went to Austarlia. Its just my theory but I’m not really sure.
